Bored of sun, sea and sand? Why not pay a
visit to historic Spain
Often when people think of holidays in Spain they think
of sun drenched holidays on endless beaches, either that
or the myriad clubs and bars - and there's nothing wrong
with that! However, with the many cheap
flights being
offered by companies such as Travelzoo, it is now certainly
possible to see more of the country than ever before.
So why not hop on a plane and visit one of Spain's more
historical cities? Here are three to get you started.
Firstly,
and surely one of the most impressive cities in Spain,
is Cadiz. This is one of Europe's oldest
cities, and as such Cadiz is steeped in history,
and surrounded
with archaeological ruins. If you visit this city
you can see the Cathedral, which is the centrepiece of
this urban landscape. Once there you must climb
to
the top
of the cupula for a panoramic view of the entire
city, just to take in how beautiful it actually is. What's
more if your lucky enough to be there around Ash
Wednesday
then you will be able to take in the sights and sounds
of the carnival. Cadiz carnival is one of the oldest,
and certainly one of the best in Spain.
A good place to
look for luxury
holidays in Spain is Abercrombie and
Kent’s website, where you could
find a villa next to the old city of Leon - an ideal
place to visit for those looking for the historic
Spain. Leon was founded by the Romans and remains
one of the
most spectacular cities in the whole of Spain. When
you arrive, pay a visit to the Church of San Isodoro',
which
dates date to 11th Century, as well as the adjoining
Pantheon of the Kings. When in the Pantheon of the
Kings remember to look up - the ceiling paintings
are amongst
the most breathtaking ever painted.
Finally, last but not least, is the fabulous city
of Cordoba. There aren't many places upon the
earth that
were at one time the capital of a Roman province,
and then a capital of an Arab state as well.
Both of these
cultural influences can be seen throughout the
city and Cordoba has become well know for its art
and
culture.
